Neuromuscular Re-Education:

Human movements are learned and encoded in early childhood. Once encoded, they are stored in memory, become routine and are carried out without being given conscious attention. Learning is based on many inter-related reflexes, that lead to execution of complex tasks. Stress, or injuries damage the complex reflex mechanism of previously learned processes stored in the memory. Some parts of the memory may become compromised, deleted and lost. Movements may become flawed because of and resulting in abnormal physiological patterns and tissue break down.

The physical therapy modality or process that helps an individual to relearn lost movement tasks is called neuromuscular re-education. It is a combination of different therapy procedures and specific exercises that coupled with positive reinforcement results in regaining a lost movement or coordination.

If you are suffering of an orthopedic condition that causes physical dysfunction, neuromuscular re-education may help you.

Exercises for Endurance: (Cardiovascular or Conditioning Training)

Cardiovascular or conditioning exercises consist of light, repetitive movements. Walking, jogging, running, dancing, climbing, swimming are examples of these exercises.

The main training effect of conditioning or endurance exercises is improved stamina and vigor, i.e. the ability of an individual to endure or maintain a physical activity for an extended period of time without rest and fatigue.

Trained muscles can store increased amounts of energy source and utilize it more efficiently. That means improved metabolism and longer lasting exercises without fatigue or the need for rest. This improved metabolism benefit both skeletal and the heart muscles.

If you are suffering of an orthopedic condition and in the absence of heart disease you get tired too soon due to being deconditioned, endurance exercises may help you.

Exercises for Strength: (Weight lifting or Anti-Gravity Exercises)

Strength exercises allow the body to improve its ability to exert power, lifting and carrying weight. Strengthening exercises mainly benefit the specific muscle or muscle group that were being strengthened or trained. The visible sign of muscle strengthening is muscle hypertrophy, an increase in size or bulk of the muscle.

In contrast to the effects of conditioning exercises, strengthening results in fast fatiguing of the muscles .

Patients participating in exercise programs in our facility receive detailed instructions and are being supervised.

If you developed muscle weakness and atrophy as a result of a recent orthopedic surgery, or you are in convalescence due to an other medical condition, suffering of a period of immobilization or inactivity, strengthening exercises may be helpful to you.

Exercises for mobility and flexibility:

These exercises improve muscle and tendon length, and allow the muscles to be better prepared and be less susceptible for injuries and strains. They also result in improved range of joint motions. Typically, these exercises consist of stretch and range of motions of individual joints.

If you are suffering of an orthopedic condition causing stiffness and limitation of your joint movements, flexibility exercises may be helpful to you.

Joint Mobilization:

Injuries frequently cause inflammation, pain, muscle spasm, joint swelling and stiffness. These symptoms will impair mobility. Lack of mobility or exercise can results in muscle or joint contractures. This condition severely interferes with normal function.

Joint mobilization utilized by a therapist can result in regaining normal mobility. This treatment includes passive and active movements of body parts, or range of motion exercises and stretch.

If as a result of an orthopedic condition or surgery you are experiencing limitation of range of motion of a joint, or stiffness and fatigue, joint mobilization may be helpful to you.

Myofascial Release:

Muscles are covered by a tough membrane, called fascia. Due to a variety of factors including strain, inactivity, injury, inflammation, decreased blood flow, etc. the fascia and the muscle may develop a vary painful condition called myofascial pain syndrome, or trigger point disease, (trigger points).

The condition may cause a complex pain syndrome with a specific pain pattern typically a radiating pain. It may cause muscle spasm, limitation of range of motion and may mimic other, sometimes severe symptoms. Myofascial release is a massage method that may positively affects the above syndrome.

If you are suffering of trigger points or myofascial pain syndrome, causing skeletal or muscle pain along with stiffness and fatigue, myofascial release may be helpful to you.

Massage and manual treatment:

Medical massage may improve the symptoms of back and neck injuries, relieves stress, tension and spasm in the skeletal muscles, including back or neck pain and headaches.

Since it reduces joint and soft tissue swelling, massage can be utilized in sports injuries and inflammations like tendonitis or bursitis. In addition, massage improves blood circulation and lymph flow in the soft tissues. Expertly applied gentle massage may positively influence the dysfunction of peripheral nerves.

It improves general patient comfort and sense of well being and positively affects the psychological perception of distorted body image in diseased state thereby it may help in the restoration of physical health and pain.

Massage applies systematic, complex patterns of physical pressure, through touch of the soft tissues of the body including the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia (the membrane that envelops the muscles) and joints.

Manual treatment includes massage, joint mobilization, stretch, manual traction, occipital release, cranio-sacral therapy, etc. The main effect of manual treatment is general improvement of movement, including improved range of joint motion, improved flexibility and muscle relaxation with relief of stiffness. It has a significant contribution in relieving tension and pain.

If you are suffering of a skeletal or muscle pain condition or an orthopedic condition that causes pain and stiffness or limitation of range of motion, massage may be helpful to you.
